UK developed the nation’s first and consistently top ranked Department of Behavioral Science, which assists in developing students’ interest in public health and patient assessments.

UK takes pride in educating future physicians and scientists.

In 2007, UK became one of only four institutions nationally to offer a tuition guarantee pilot program—providing students the ability to better plan their financial obligations while attending medical school.

UK is on the cutting-edge in medical research with contracts and grants exceeding $127 million in 2008.

Sixty-four of UK physicians were named to 2008’s list of Best Doctors in America®. They had more physicians on the list than any other hospital in Kentucky.

All six of the UK Basic Science Departments and two of their Clinical Departments are in the NIH Top 20.

Kentucky Horse Park

In 1777, Patrick Henry, then Governor of Virginia, granted 9,000 acres of land in the Kentucky Territory to his brother-in-law, William Christian, as a reward for his service in the French and Indian War. A wealthy Virginian, Colonel Christian moved his family to Kentucky in 1785 and established a farm on Beargrass Creek near Louisville. Christian was killed by Indians in 1786, and his daughter, Elizabeth Dickerson, inherited the Elkhorn Creek tract, 3,000 acres of land now in both Scott and Fayette Counties. Part of this land became the Kentucky Horse Park.
