KY Family
Medicine Residency
Program
(KY
FMRP) is a
community
based, University-administered program
accredited and approved for
four residents in each post-graduate
year.
The presence of the residency in the
University of Kentucky Center for Excellence in Rural
Health (UKCRH) offers a unique
opportunity for multi-disciplinary education
with a variety of health professionals
and collaboration with community
programs.
The Kentucky State Office of Rural
Health is located at UKCRH and offers
assistance to health professionals
with student loan repayment.
Committed to the common vision of
improving health to rural people,
the faculty has implemented a well functioning
curriculum that addresses
the unique intricacies of rural medicine.
The UK North Fork Valley Community
Health Center provides such
services as health maintenance,
treatment of acute and chronic illnesses,
family planning, obstetrical
and gynecological care, minor surgical
procedures, dietary consultation,
patient education, primary care
counseling and dental care facilities.
Hazard is located in Perry County, on the north fork of the Kentucky River in southeastern Kentucky.
It is called Queen City of the Mountains because of the rolling hills, river valleys, and beautiful scenery.
Hazard gives its residents all the benefits of rural life—the security of a small town, with the easy access to larger cities. |

Thirty miles west of Hazard is Buckhorn Lake. Enjoy camping, skiing, boating fishing, and swimming in the various recreation areas near the lake or enjoy the trails at the Daniel Boone National Forest. Carr Creek Lake is just fifteen miles south of Hazard. Natural Bridge State Resort Park is just a hour away. |
The Black Gold Festival is held each fall. Concerts, kids events, craft displays, dance parties, car shows and the Road hazards Extreme Stunt Show are the highlights, along with the annual parade.
The Mountain Arts Center is a beautiful facility, forty-five miles to the east, houses a 1,054 seat theater, several large meeting rooms, a commercial re-cording studio, and an art gallery.
The Breaks Interstate Park, about seventy-five miles to the southeast, is known as the Grand Canyon of the South.
Cumberland Falls State Park - Known as the “Niagara of the South, ” the 125-foot wide curtain of water is dramatic at anytime, but especially at night during a full moon. On those nights, you can see a moonbow, something that is not found anywhere else in the Western Hemisphere. The park is approximately eighty-eight miles to the southwest of Hazard. |
